Frequently Asked Questions

What is Sweet Mallow and How Do I Order?

Sweet Mallow is a brand new, home-based confectionary focusing on making the most delicious homemade marshmallows you’ve ever had! We’re located in Bellmore, Long Island, New York, and pickup orders will be available starting mid August. Right now as we get things together, we’re taking pre-orders via our order form (see the “Shop Marshmallows” page for ordering details.)

Are your marshmallows truly ‘homemade’?

100% - all of your marshmallows are made in our home kitchen, following strict food safety standards, made using high quality ingredients.

Do you have social media?

Yes - all social media links are at the top of every page on the site - great for seeing the process of making your orders!

On your social media you’re touching the marshmallows with your hands and the marshmallows are slightly different shapes/sizes- is my order prepared in a consistent, clean and safe manner?

Yes! The videos are just for the ‘gram and TikTok - not for consumption (except for my kids, who don’t care at all, lol). When made for customers all marshmallows are handled with gloves, following strict food safety standards. *Sweet Mallow is also registered with New York Department of Agriculture and Markets, Division of Food and Safety and Inspection, which sets the standards for home food preparation. And when you receive an order your marshmallows will all be the same dimensions, and will be handled and packaged with gloves to ensure a high food safety standard.

Do you have a culinary background?

Yes! Even though I’ve been (and am currently) an educator, baking has always been a passion. When I was in my mid twenties I received a degree in pastry arts from The Art Institute of New York (now closed, formerly the New York Restaurant School). I also briefly interned at Francois Payard Bakery as part of my culinary education.

Are your marshmallows prepared in a peanut free environment?

Most of the marshmallows (with the exception of chocolate peanut butter fudge, which uses a peanut butter extract) contain no peanuts/tree nuts, nor does the equipment used in making the marshmallows touch any peanuts/tree nuts directly. *That said, we do have packaged peanut butter in our home, in a pantry. Please judge your level of allergy before ordering. I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Are Your Marshmallows made to order?

Yes they are – your order will be made shortly before you receive them to ensure the highest degree of freshness at the time of pickup.

Do I need to worry about my marshmallows going rancid?

Not really – marshmallows are, after all, a candy, and they don’t include any dairy products, nor any ingredients that go rancid. They will, however, like all food, lose some of their spring and texture over time (this is a great time to toast them!)

How long can you store your marshmallows?

In an airtight container, they can be stored without noticeable decrease in quality for a few weeks up to a month. The more you can keep them from the air, the longer they’ll stay. *I don’t recommend freezing or putting them in the fridge, as the moisture this can create will change the texture.

How many marshmallows come in an order?

3 marshmallows (approximately 2x2 in size) come in a standard order, however custom orders/bulk orders can be arranged - please contact via our “Contact Us” tab at the top of the website

Why do the prices of different marshmallows vary?

Generally speaking orders will be about $10 for 3 2x2 sized (approx.) marshmallows. I always try to keep the costs as low as possible, but for more expensive and/or specialty ingredients the prices need to be adjusted slightly.

What can I do with marshmallows?

S’mores! Hot Chocolate! Rice crispy treats! Eat them straight up, toast them, give as gifts for parties, baby showers, bridal showers, or weddings—the possibilities are endless!

Are custom/bulk orders available?

Yes - if you have any specific requests just email at sweetmallow@gmail.com and I’d be happy to work with you for whatever you need.
